Assistant Chief Engineer

About the role

The Assistant Chief Engineer supports the Chief Engineer in maintaining the hotel’s building, plant and equipment on the south‑eastern coast of Mauritius. The role ensures guest comfort by promptly addressing defects and overseeing the Repair & Maintenance and Maintenance & Operation sections.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise the Repair & Maintenance and Maintenance & Operation sections.
• Ensure all defects affecting guest comfort are dealt with quickly.
• Log plant readings, consumables, services, materials and fuels accurately.
• Prepare duty rosters and ensure staff attendance.
• Conduct staff inductions and training according to the approved program.
• Maintain high cleanliness standards in non‑housekeeping areas.
• Report daily to the Chief Engineer and accompany him on hotel inspections.
• Participate in safety programmes, fire brigade duties and fire drill training.
• Oversee preventive maintenance, maintenance plans and budget recommendations.
• Ensure accidents are reported and spare parts are used economically.

Required profile

• Experience supervising maintenance teams in a hospitality environment.
• Strong understanding of building, plant and equipment operations.
• Ability to coordinate schedules, manage inventories and enforce safety procedures.
• Good communication skills to report to the Chief Engineer and address staff grievances.
