Coxswain – Boat Operator for US Navy Program

About the role

Amentum is seeking a qualified Coxswain to support a unique US Navy program on Diego Garcia. The role involves safe operation, navigation, and maintenance of assigned boats and watercraft while ensuring the safety of passengers, crew, and cargo during maritime missions.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and navigate assigned vessels in accordance with mission requirements.
• Conduct pre‑inspections, routine preventive maintenance, and minor repairs.
• Manage onboard navigation, communication, and safety equipment.
• Monitor weather and sea conditions and adjust plans for safe navigation.
• Coordinate vessel movements with port authorities and other vessels.
• Execute docking, mooring, anchoring, and vessel handling operations.
• Respond to emergencies, including rescue and recovery procedures.
• Maintain accurate logs, maintenance records, voyage reports, and incident documentation.
• Conduct safety briefings and emergency drills for passengers and crew.
• Assist with loading, securing, and unloading of cargo and supplies.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience as a Coxswain or similar vessel operator.
• Qualified in accordance with NAVEDTRA 43152.2.
• Familiarity with the waterways of Diego Garcia.
• Minimum 48 hours documented hands‑on experience operating deep‑sea fishing boats in Diego Garcia.
• Working knowledge of GPS navigation and marine navigation equipment.
