Emergency Vehicle Technician

About the role

The Emergency Vehicle Technician is responsible for maintaining and repairing a wide range of fire department and emergency response vehicles, including fire trucks, ambulances, and specialized ARFF apparatus. The role ensures that all equipment is safe, reliable, and ready for rapid deployment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform maintenance, repair, and servicing of assigned fire vehicles and related equipment.
• Conduct heavy‑equipment tasks such as engine removal, hydraulic and pneumatic system overhauls, and air‑conditioning repairs.
• Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults using computerized test equipment, gauges, and calibration devices.
• Rebuild hydraulic cylinders, valves, planetary drives, suspensions, and other critical components.
• Calibrate load‑monitoring indicators and ensure compliance with safety standards.
• Document work orders, invoices, repair records, and activity reports.
• Act as point‑of‑contact for maintenance issues in the absence of a supervisor.

Required profile

• Minimum two years of heavy‑vehicle maintenance experience in emergency, civilian, or military environments.
• High school diploma or equivalent; EVT Level 1 or similar certification preferred.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lb regularly and assist with loads up to 100 lb.
• Strong understanding of safety policies, hazardous waste handling, and OSHA/ANSI standards.
