HVAC & Refrigeration Mechanic – Foreman Level

About the role

Amentum is seeking an experienced HVAC & Refrigeration Mechanic to lead a crew supporting a US Navy program on Diego Garcia. The role involves installation, maintenance, modification, and repair of air conditioning and refrigeration systems in a remote, challenging environment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead HVAC crew(s) in installing, maintaining, and repairing refrigeration and air‑conditioning systems according to blueprints and manufacturer specifications.
• Coordinate schedules, distribute work, and ensure adequate staffing.
• Track, analyze, and report progress, trends, and issues; recommend improvements.
• Implement preventive‑maintenance programs for HVAC equipment.
• Train personnel on HVAC maintenance activities.
• Fabricate, assemble, and install ductwork and chassis parts using portable metal‑working tools and welding equipment.
• Connect motors, compressors, temperature and humidity controls, and ventilation fans to control panels and power sources.
• Install, repair, and service up to 20‑ton air conditioners.

Required profile

• 1‑3 years of relevant HVAC experience.
• High School Diploma or equivalent; trade certification in heating and air conditioning preferred.
• EPA Section 608 Technician Certification (Type 1, 2, and/or 3) as required.
• Ability to work in remote, uncomfortable conditions with long hours and exposure to weather and hazards.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally on short notice.

Required skills

• Knowledge of refrigeration, heating, and air‑handling principles.
• Proficiency with hand tools, diagnostic equipment, and portable metal‑working tools.
• Ability to read and interpret schematics, safety rules, and maintenance manuals.
• Trade certification in heating and air conditioning; Freon recovery/recycling certification where applicable.
