About the role
The Credit Risk & Sanctioning Manager is responsible for assessing, analysing and approving credit proposals within delegated authority, while ensuring that all decisions align with Bank One’s risk appetite and regulatory guidelines. The role works closely with relationship managers, analysts and senior stakeholders to deliver high‑quality credit decisions and support the Chief Credit Officer on strategic policy matters.
Key responsibilities
- Evaluate and sanction credit proposals within delegated authority, adhering to Bank policies and Central Bank guidelines.
- Provide expert credit risk analysis and recommendations for facilities beyond personal discretion, escalating to committees when required.
- Ensure credit underwriting is consistent, well‑documented and aligned with the bank’s risk‑return objectives.
- Support business units in structuring complex credit proposals and mitigating associated risks.
- Identify weaknesses in credit applications and request additional information as needed.
- Monitor portfolio quality, detect emerging risks and recommend proactive remedial actions.
- Prepare monthly portfolio reports for the Executive Risk Committee and Credit Committees.
- Participate in portfolio reviews and stress‑testing exercises to assess resilience under adverse scenarios.
- Assist the Chief Credit Officer in developing and reviewing credit risk policies, frameworks and sanctioning guidelines.
- Ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulatory requirements in all credit decisions.
- Participate in internal credit committees, providing independent risk views.
- Collaborate with Relationship Managers, Product Teams and other risk functions to maintain a balanced risk/reward approach.
- Provide training and guidance to credit analysts and relationship teams on assessment standards.
- Ensure all sanctioned facilities are properly documented and meet audit standards; support internal and external audits.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics or a related field (master’s or professional qualification acceptable).
- Proven experience in credit risk assessment, underwriting and sanctioning within a banking environment.
- Strong understanding of Central Bank guidelines and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Ability to work closely with senior stakeholders and influence credit decisions.
