Elevator Mechanic – Maintenance & Repair

About the role

The Elevator Mechanic will ensure safe, reliable operation of embassy elevators through routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs. Reporting to the Elevator Supervisor, you will work on mechanical and electrical systems to meet certification and licensing standards.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and resolve faults in brakes, motors, switches, and control systems using diagnostic tools.
• Disassemble, repair, or replace components such as locks, gears, cables, and safety devices.
• Lubricate bearings and other moving parts to reduce friction.
• Install or service transformers, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, motors, heating units, and conduit systems.
• Interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and wiring diagrams to locate equipment issues.
• Perform preventative maintenance according to schedules, procedures, and warranties.
• Conduct equipment tests with voltmeters, ammeters, ohmmeters, continuity testers, feeler gauges, and frequency counters.
• Provide documentation to Environmental Health & Safety and Quality Assurance divisions.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED; apprenticeship or Journeyman’s Certificate strongly preferred.
• Experience reading sketches, engineering drawings, and manufacturers’ manuals.
• Familiarity with US Electrical Codes and standard trade practices.
• Knowledge of annual maintenance and load‑testing procedures for electrical and mechanical systems.
