Assistant Accountant

About the role

We are seeking a detail‑oriented Assistant Accountant to support our day‑to‑day accounting operations in Mauritius. The role involves maintaining accurate financial records, processing payroll, and ensuring statutory compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and update accounting records, ledgers, and financial transactions.
• Prepare monthly bank reconciliations and monitor cash balances.
• Assist in the preparation of management accounts and financial statements.
• Handle accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
• Prepare and submit statutory returns such as VAT, PAYE/CSG/PRGF, and TDS.
• Process payroll, including overtime calculations and salary deductions.
• Support tax filings and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Prepare supporting documentation for audits and coordinate with auditors when required.
• Monitor expenses and ensure proper documentation and approvals are in place.
• Maintain organized filing of financial records and supporting documents.
• Assist with cash flow monitoring and forecasting.

Required profile

• Degree or Diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 3–5 years of relevant accounting experience.
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
• Good understanding of statutory filings and compliance requirements.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
