Assistant Accountant

About the role

The Assistant Accountant will support Africa Specialty Risks Ltd’s finance function, handling accounts payable, expense processing, and general ledger activities. The role is hands‑on, focusing on transactional processing and month‑end close, with opportunities to grow into broader reporting and analysis.

Key responsibilities

• Own end‑to‑end accounts payable: invoice receipt, validation, coding, posting, supplier statement reconciliation and query resolution.
• Support the rollout and testing of Concur, then manage ongoing expense processing and approvals.
• Maintain payment runs and supplier master data.
• Prepare and post journals in NetSuite, including accruals, pre‑payments and intercompany transactions.
• Assist with balance‑sheet reconciliations and ensure supporting documentation is audit‑ready.
• Support timely month‑end close: journal preparation, reconciliations, analysis and schedule production for management reporting.
• Document finance processes, strengthen controls around AP and expenses, and identify automation opportunities.
• Prepare audit schedules, respond to auditor queries and maintain audit‑ready documentation.

Required profile

• Experience in accounts payable, expense processing and general ledger functions.
• Familiarity with month‑end close procedures and audit support.
• Detail‑oriented with strong analytical abilities.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast‑growing insurance environment.
