Data Engineering Specialist

About the role

As a Data Engineering Specialist at Africa Specialty Risks, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the data infrastructure that powers our insurance analytics and reporting. You will work closely with data scientists, analysts, and product teams to ensure high‑quality, accessible data across the organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, test and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes.
• Automate data ingestion using Python, SQL and cloud‑based ETL platforms.
• Develop and optimise database schemas, views, mapping tables, data models and data warehouses (SQL, NoSQL, cloud storage, data lakes).
• Integrate internal and external data sources and build APIs for data access.
• Implement data validation, quality checks, cleaning procedures and ensure compliance with data governance, security and privacy standards.
• Assist in configuring and managing cloud databases and data‑warehouse frameworks.
• Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, product teams and executives to translate technical concepts into actionable insights.

Required profile

• Hands‑on experience with Python and SQL.
• Familiarity with major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Experience using ETL tools such as Databricks, Azure Data Factory or SSIS.
• Strong understanding of data modelling, metadata management and data architecture.
• Knowledge of data governance, security and privacy regulations.
