Data Scientist

About the role

The Data Scientist will transform migrated lakehouse data into production‑ready models and actionable insights for the client’s priority use cases. The role supports the client’s AI roadmap by ensuring the data foundation is robust and by taking models from notebooks into production environments.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with business and data leads to translate use‑case requirements into analytical and machine‑learning solutions.
• Perform exploratory analysis, feature engineering and model development on Databricks.
• Build, track and deploy models using MLflow, Feature Store and Databricks Model Serving.
• Validate migrated data against legacy DB2 outputs to maintain analytical integrity.
• Prepare retrieval, evaluation and ground‑truth datasets for generative AI use cases.
• Define model evaluation metrics and set up monitoring for drift and performance.
• Communicate findings and model behaviour clearly to business stakeholders while adhering to governance, security and responsible AI standards.

Required profile

• Strong communication skills with ability to work remotely with business teams.
• Experience in an agile squad focusing on one use case at a time.
• Willingness to work onsite in Mauritius for at least one year.

Required skills

• Python (pandas, scikit‑learn, PySpark) and SQL.
• Databricks ML stack: MLflow, Feature Store, Model Serving.
• Experience moving models from development to production, including evaluation, validation and monitoring.
• Cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure.
• Statistical analysis, machine‑learning modelling and feature engineering.
