About the role
Amentum is seeking an experienced Power Plant Operator to support a unique US Navy program on Diego Garcia. The role involves ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable electricity generation for critical operations.
Key responsibilities
- Operate and monitor generator sets, switchboards, radiator fans, and related power plant equipment.
- Manage fuel supply systems, including starting air compressors, fuel‑oil centrifuges, and lube‑oil centrifuges.
- Conduct pre‑operation checks, continuous operational monitoring, and post‑operation inspections.
- Troubleshoot operational issues and implement corrective actions.
- Perform routine equipment inspections to detect wear, leaks, or corrosion.
- Regulate load balances via power plant controls to maintain consistent power delivery.
- Document performance data, operational logs, and maintenance activities.
- Carry out preventive maintenance and basic repairs such as cleaning, lubricating, and part replacement.
- Adhere to safety standards and environmental regulations.
- Respond to emergencies and abnormal conditions to minimize downtime.
- Coordinate with supervisors, technicians, and other staff.
Required profile
- Minimum three years of experience operating and maintaining power generation equipment.
- Knowledge of generator sets, switchboards, air compressors, and fuel/lube oil systems.
- Ability to read technical manuals, schematics, and equipment diagrams.
- Familiarity with safety protocols, industry standards, and environmental regulations.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid passport with at least one year of validity and ability to pass contract medical requirements.
