Project Director – Natural Park Initiative

About the role

The Collectif Mauricien Pour Roches Noires (CMRN) seeks a Project Director to lead the creation and long‑term management of a 365‑hectare private natural park in Mauritius. Reporting directly to the CMRN Board, you will shape a high‑impact environmental and social initiative that aims to become a national benchmark for conservation, public access to nature, and sustainable development.

Key responsibilities

• Represent the park to institutions, partners, media and the public while overseeing governance bodies.
• Execute the financing strategy, diversify revenue through low‑impact ecotourism, research partnerships and results‑based payments.
• Recruit, lead and manage the park’s operational team, develop annual operating plans and budgets, and ensure financial and narrative reporting to the Board and funders.
• Implement the conservation strategy, supervise biodiversity monitoring, wetland and mangrove management, fire and encroachment risk mitigation, and ecosystem‑service baselines.
• Maintain structured relations with the Roches Noires village, council, neighbouring landowners, ministries, NGOs and academic institutions; lead community programmes on employment, education and sustainable tourism.
• Work with the communications partner to represent the park in public forums, manage media relations and protect its reputation.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading complex, multi‑stakeholder projects, preferably in environmental conservation or sustainable development.
• Strong organisational capabilities and the ability to engage and align diverse stakeholders.
• High professional integrity, accountability and strategic oversight.
