Psychological Wellbeing Officer

About the role

The Psychological Wellbeing Officer will join Association Kinouété in Mauritius to provide professional psychological support to detainees and former detainees. Working on‑site, you will deliver individual counselling, group sessions and psycho‑educational activities aimed at building emotional resilience and facilitating successful reintegration into society.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct one‑to‑one psychological assessments and counselling sessions for current and former detainees.
• Design and lead group interventions and psycho‑educational workshops that promote mental health and personal growth.
• Develop personalised care plans based on assessed wellbeing needs.
• Maintain accurate, confidential case notes and documentation.
• Collaborate closely with social workers, multidisciplinary team members and external partners to ensure coordinated support.
• Contribute to the development and evaluation of wellbeing programmes.
• Participate in outreach, follow‑up and community reintegration activities.

Required profile

• Post‑graduate qualification in Psychology, Counselling, Psychotherapy or a related field.
• Demonstrated ability to work with justice‑involved or vulnerable populations, preferably in NGO or community settings.
• Strong understanding of trauma‑informed, person‑centred approaches.
• Excellent communication, active listening and empathy.
• Resilience and self‑care awareness to manage emotionally demanding situations.
