Senior Database Platform Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Database Platform Engineer to own the administration, reliability, security and performance of Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL environments. You will manage the full database lifecycle, ensuring production platforms stay highly available, secure and optimised while partnering with development teams to design scalable solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Administer Microsoft SQL Server, Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL Managed Instance, handling provisioning, configuration, capacity planning and lifecycle management.
• Design and maintain database objects (tables, views, stored procedures, functions, triggers, indexes) and enforce naming conventions and standards.
• Analyse Query Store, execution plans, DMVs and Azure performance metrics; tune T‑SQL queries, indexing strategies and resolve blocking, deadlocks and concurrency issues.
• Define and execute proactive maintenance plans, manage statistics, index maintenance, integrity checks and storage growth.
• Develop backup, recovery and high‑availability strategies; validate restore procedures and support disaster‑recovery initiatives.
• Manage database security, authentication, authorization and implement least‑privilege principles; support audit and compliance requirements.
• Control version‑controlled SQL deployments, review scripts, plan rollbacks and automate repetitive tasks with PowerShell.
• Provide technical leadership on database architecture, guide engineering teams during solution design and conduct root‑cause analysis for continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of experience administering Microsoft SQL Server environments.
• Proven track record supporting production‑critical databases.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting and communication skills.
