Assistant Accountant

About the role

The Assistant Accountant supports the Finance Department in managing accounts payable, creditor relationships, purchasing documentation, and various accounting functions. The role ensures accurate financial records, timely invoice processing, and compliance with company policies and statutory requirements while providing administrative assistance to the finance team.

Key responsibilities

• Assemble, review, and verify invoices and payment requests for accuracy and completeness.
• Match invoices to purchase orders, code, and sort them for processing.
• Enter invoices into the accounting system and track departmental expenses.
• Prepare and process electronic fund transfers, bank payments, cheque payments, and scheduled cheque runs.
• Post financial transactions to journals and ledgers, and reconcile accounts payable transactions and supplier statements.
• Monitor supplier accounts, investigate discrepancies, and resolve supplier queries.
• Maintain accurate vendor records and produce monthly accounts payable reports.
• Assist with month‑end and year‑end closing procedures and provide documentation for internal and external audits.
• Ensure confidentiality of financial information and compliance with statutory regulations and accounting best practices.
