Emergency Vehicle Technician

About the role
The Emergency Vehicle Technician is responsible for maintaining and repairing a wide range of fire and rescue apparatus, including fire trucks, ARFF units, ambulances, and associated heavy equipment. The role ensures that all emergency vehicles are safe, reliable, and ready for rapid deployment.
Key responsibilities
- Perform maintenance, repair, and servicing of assigned fire vehicles and equipment, including structural ARFF and ambulance apparatus.
- Conduct heavy‑equipment maintenance such as installation, troubleshooting, diagnostics, and preventive maintenance on trucks, cranes, forklifts, loaders, and more.
- Remove and replace engines and mechanical units, using computerized test equipment, calibration devices, and gauges.
- Repair air‑conditioning systems, rebuild hydraulic cylinders, valves, planetary drives, suspensions, and other components.
- Calibrate load‑monitoring indicators and ensure safe lift operations.
- Document work orders, invoices, repair records, and activity reports.
- Adhere to safety policies, handle hazardous waste properly, and perform recovery operations as needed.
- Act as point‑of‑contact for maintenance issues in the absence of a supervisor.
Required profile
- Minimum two years of heavy‑vehicle maintenance experience in emergency, civilian, military, or tactical environments.
- High school diploma or equivalent; valid driver’s license.
- Ability to repair, rebuild, and overhaul engines, mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic assemblies used by fire departments.
- Strong diagnostic skills using electronic test equipment and computer‑based tools.
- Practical knowledge of hydraulics, pulley systems, gear ratios, and ability to read schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings.
- Prefer EVT Level 1 certification and familiarity with US military vehicles, OSHA, ANSI, ASME, and OEM standards.
