Emergency Vehicle Technician

About the role

The Emergency Vehicle Technician is responsible for maintaining and repairing a wide range of fire department vehicles and heavy equipment, ensuring they are ready for emergency response. This role involves hands‑on work with engines, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems, as well as routine preventive maintenance.

Key responsibilities

• Perform maintenance, repair, and servicing of fire trucks, ARFF apparatus, ambulances, and associated heavy equipment.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical malfunctions using computerized test equipment and gauges.
• Remove, rebuild, and replace engines, hydraulic cylinders, valves, planetary drives, suspensions, and other critical components.
• Repair air‑conditioning systems, calibrate load‑monitoring indicators, and service crane rigging.
• Document work orders, invoices, repair records, and activity reports.
• Follow all safety policies, including hazardous waste handling and OSHA standards.
• Act as point‑of‑contact for maintenance issues in the absence of the supervisor.

Required profile

• Minimum two years of heavy‑vehicle maintenance experience in emergency, civilian, military or tactical environments.
• High school diploma or equivalent; valid driver’s license.
• Prefer certification such as EVT Level 1, Fire Apparatus, Ambulance, or ARFF Technician.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lb regularly and assist with loads up to 100 lb.
