Head of Internal Audit

About the role

The Head of Internal Audit leads an independent, risk‑based assurance function, providing the Board Audit Committee and executive leadership with insight into governance, risk management and internal controls.

Key responsibilities

• Set the audit portfolio strategy, conduct risk assessments and develop a resourced assurance plan aligned with the Group Internal Audit methodology.
• Oversee end‑to‑end audit delivery, ensure evidence‑based reporting, monitor findings and report material themes to senior stakeholders and governance committees.
• Build trusted relationships with Boards, Audit Committees, senior management and regulators, presenting audit opinions and emerging risks while maintaining independence.
• Attract, develop and retain a diverse high‑performing team, manage resources, budget and succession planning.
• Expand the use of data analytics, technology‑enabled assurance, automation and continuous monitoring across the audit portfolio.

Required profile

• More than 10 years of internal audit experience with senior leadership responsibility in a complex, regulated organisation.
• Proven ability to engage with Boards, Audit Committees, senior executives and regulators.
• Strong banking or financial services background, preferably with exposure to corporate and investment banking, credit, financial crime, markets, technology and cyber risk.
• Demonstrated leadership, strategic thinking and the courage to challenge senior stakeholders constructively.
