Head of People & Culture

About the role

The Head of People & Culture will lead both operational and strategic HR functions across the Terra Group’s diverse businesses, including Novaterra, Sugarworld, Terra Finance and others. Reporting to senior management, this role will shape HR strategy, drive employee engagement and ensure compliance with Mauritian labour law while supporting business growth.

Key responsibilities

• Define and implement HR strategy in partnership with senior leadership.
• Lead and develop the HR team, fostering a high‑performing culture.
• Oversee end‑to‑end recruitment, onboarding, expatriate management and workforce planning.
• Provide employment‑law guidance and manage industrial relations risks.
• Drive employee engagement initiatives, surveys and focus groups.
• Design and monitor training, performance management and succession planning programmes.
• Lead group‑wide HR projects such as the Top Employer certification and Group Employee Engagement Survey.
• Benchmark remuneration, oversee benefits administration and approve monthly payroll for allocated entities.

Required profile

• 10‑15 years of progressive HR experience, preferably in a multi‑entity or group environment.
• Post‑graduate qualification in HR or related field; Chartered HR status (e.g., CIPD) is an advantage.
• Strong knowledge of Mauritian labour law.
• Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder‑management skills.
• Digitally savvy with experience using HRMS platforms and analytics dashboards.
• Forward‑looking mindset with the ability to anticipate business needs.
• Personable, resilient and able to balance empathy with firmness.
• Fluent in English and French.
