Recreation Services Specialist

About the role

The Recreation Services Specialist will support the US Navy’s morale, welfare and recreation (MWR) program on Diego Garcia. The role focuses on delivering safe, engaging recreational activities for military personnel and civilians while ensuring compliance with safety and hazardous‑material regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, deliver and oversee recreation programs and activities that meet the needs of the military community.
• Ensure compliance with CNICINST 1710.3 hazardous‑material handling and storage guidelines.
• Maintain current CPR certification or obtain it prior to employment.
• Complete Navy‑required customer service training (MWR Star Service, AECR).
• Manage day‑to‑day recreational services, facilities and equipment, prioritising safety and customer satisfaction.
• Set up and support special events, sports leagues and community‑wide activities.
• Interact with patrons, respond to inquiries and provide professional service.
• Inspect and maintain recreational equipment and facilities for readiness.
• Assist with inventory management of supplies and materials used in programs.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Training or certification in hazardous‑material handling as specified in CNICINST 1710.3.
• Current CPR certification or ability to obtain before start date.
• Willingness to complete Navy MWR Star Service and AECR customer‑service training.
• Valid passport with at least one year of validity and ability to travel internationally.
• Ability to pass and maintain contract medical requirements for the duration of deployment.
