Research Project Assistant

About the role

The research project assistant will be engaged in all research projects at Reef Conservation. Working closely with the Research Project Manager, the role offers hands‑on experience in marine fieldwork, data collection and analysis, and contributes directly to project objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Research Project Manager with day‑to‑day activities and ensure project timelines are met.
• Conduct fieldwork including snorkeling, diving, and scientific monitoring of coral, seagrass and mangrove ecosystems.
• Collect, analyse and interpret ecological data, maintain databases and support GIS mapping.
• Coordinate procurement of equipment, organise meetings and communicate with stakeholders and partners.
• Engage local communities, deliver education and training sessions on marine environment issues.
• Prepare scientific and technical reports, publications and other communication materials.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Science in biological, ecological, marine or fisheries science or equivalent experience.
• Minimum one year of experience in research or monitoring projects, preferably at sea.
• Valid PADI Open Water (or equivalent) diving qualification.
• Proficiency in report and scientific publication writing.
• Fluency in English, French and Creole.
• Strong organisational, analytical and communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint); GIS and data‑analysis software are a plus.
• Valid manual driving licence.
• Open to Mauritian citizens only.
