Safety & Health Manager – Construction

About the role

Our client, a leading construction company in Mauritius, is seeking a Safety & Health Manager to lead a dedicated S&H team. The role combines regulatory compliance with the development of a proactive safety culture across all sites and facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Implement and govern the company’s Health & Safety strategy, policies and procedures in line with the Occupational Safety and Health Act and Mauritian construction regulations.
• Oversee site inspections, audits and risk assessments for construction sites, offices, plants, workshops and worker accommodations.
• Manage subcontractor compliance with health & safety requirements and enforce site rules.
• Lead investigations of accidents, incidents, dangerous occurrences and near‑misses, and ensure corrective actions are closed.
• Analyse safety performance data to identify trends, mitigate risks and drive operational improvements.
• Partner with HR and Communications to embed safety content into training programmes, revamp inductions, toolbox talks and awareness campaigns.
• Supervise, mentor and develop the health & safety team, and prepare monthly reports, KPIs and dashboards for senior management.
• Act as the primary advisor to the executive team on safety risks, compliance matters and mitigation strategies.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading health & safety functions in the construction sector.
• In‑depth knowledge of Mauritian occupational health and safety legislation and construction regulations.
• Strong ability to work cross‑functionally with HR, communications and operational teams.
• Excellent analytical skills for safety data interpretation and trend analysis.
