Senior Power Plant Operator

About the role

The Senior Power Plant Operator will oversee safe, efficient and reliable operation of either the North or South Power Plant on Diego Garcia, supporting a critical US Navy program. The role includes supervising shift personnel, coordinating power demand between plants and ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise and direct all operations of the assigned power plant (NPP or SPP) during the shift, adhering to policies and safety protocols.
• Communicate and coordinate power demands and equipment operations between the North and South plants.
• Monitor and manage generators, electrical switchboards, fuel supply systems, air compressors, radiator fans and other auxiliary systems.
• Conduct routine inspections, pre‑operation checks, operational monitoring and post‑operation reviews.
• Troubleshoot malfunctions, implement corrective actions and minimize downtime.
• Prepare and maintain accurate shift logs, operational data and performance reports.
• Train and mentor shift personnel on procedures and emergency response.
• Collaborate with the Electrical Utility Manager and other supervisors on policy implementation and maintenance schedules.
• Assist in developing and updating operational procedures.

Required profile

• Minimum five years of experience in power plant operations, including supervisory or senior operational roles.
• In‑depth knowledge of power generation systems, especially generator sets, electrical switchboards, fuel systems, air compressors and radiator fans.
• Experience coordinating large‑scale power demand across multiple plants in a high‑demand environment.
