Trainee Electrician

About the role

The employer is looking for a Trainee Electrician to assist qualified electricians in the installation, maintenance, inspection and repair of electrical systems and equipment. The role provides practical, on-the-job experience while developing the technical knowledge and skills needed to work safely in electrical maintenance.

Key responsibilities

• Assist electricians with the installation, maintenance, testing and repair of electrical systems, machinery, equipment and installations.
• Help with wiring, cabling, lighting, switches, sockets, control panels, motors and other electrical components.
• Support preventive and corrective maintenance, and help identify faults and carry out basic troubleshooting under supervision.
• Install and connect cables, conduits, trunking and cable trays, and read basic electrical drawings, diagrams and specifications.
• Inspect electrical equipment, report defects and hazards, and test circuits under supervision.
• Maintain tools, equipment and work areas, keep basic records of maintenance and inspections, and handle materials responsibly.
• Follow electrical safety procedures, permit-to-work and lock-out/tag-out requirements, wear PPE, and help respond to breakdowns and emergencies.

Required profile

• School Certificate or equivalent.
• Certificate in electrical installation.
• Previous exposure to electrical work through vocational training, apprenticeship, internship or practical training is an advantage.
• Willingness to learn and develop practical electrical skills under the supervision of a qualified electrician.

Required skills

• Basic understanding of electrical safety.
• Good practical and mechanical aptitude.
• Ability to use basic hand and power tools.
• Problem-solving and troubleshooting ability.
