Tug Chief Engineer – US Navy Program

About the role

Amentum is looking for an experienced Tug Chief Engineer to lead engineering operations on a US Navy tug stationed at Diego Garcia. The role ensures safe, efficient, and reliable vessel performance for all maritime support missions.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee operation, maintenance, and repair of main and auxiliary engines, propulsion, generators, electrical, hydraulic, and HVAC systems.
• Supervise the engineering crew, assign daily tasks, and ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
• Develop and monitor preventive and scheduled maintenance programs.
• Conduct inspections of engineering spaces, track fuel, oil, temperature, and pressure parameters.
• Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues to minimize downtime.
• Maintain accurate engineering logs, maintenance records, and defect reports.
• Coordinate with the Captain and deck team for seamless vessel operations.
• Manage spare‑part inventory and requisitions.
• Lead emergency response for propulsion failures, fires, flooding, or hazardous material incidents.
• Mentor and train junior engineering staff.

Required profile

• 5–7 years of engineering experience, including 2–3 years as a Chief Engineer or similar leadership role on tugs or maritime vessels.
• Proven ability to manage complex marine engineering systems and lead a crew.
• Strong knowledge of international, flag‑state, and military regulations.
