Automotive & Heavy Mechanical Engineer

About the role

The Automotive & Heavy Mechanical Engineer will lead technical support for BIA's Trucks & Buses and Engines & Power Generators product lines across Africa. Reporting to the Technical Support Manager, the role ensures high‑level after‑sales expertise, bridges OEM requirements and BIA operations, and drives performance improvements.

Key responsibilities

• Provide timely, high‑quality technical support for breakdowns and service cases to internal after‑market customers.
• Ensure compliance with OEM claims and technical obligations, and manage the full claim lifecycle.
• Develop and maintain quality feedback processes and distribute technical information from OEMs.
• Prepare and submit technical reports, statistics, and progress updates to management.
• Conduct remote or on‑site investigations of major technical issues, coordinating with local teams, OEMs, and customers.
• Analyze and support the deployment of digital solutions for technical investigations.
• Initiate new projects or services to enhance advanced support for internal and end‑customers.
• Facilitate knowledge sharing across countries and escalate high‑urgency issues when needed.

Required profile

• Diploma in Mechanical or Electro‑mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 5 years as a Technical Engineer in heavy equipment or automotive sectors.
• Experience with heavy equipment or automotive industry; familiarity with Foton, MAN trucks & buses, Cummins engines or power generators is a plus.
• Proficiency in MS Office; AI, automation, and SAP knowledge are advantageous.
• Fluent English communication skills.
