Governance and Control Supervisor

About the role

The Governance and Control Supervisor will lead the design, implementation and ongoing management of a robust control framework for a business unit within Absa. This role ensures that controls are effective, aligned with regulatory requirements and support the delivery of strategic initiatives while fostering a strong risk culture.

Key responsibilities

• Define, embed and maintain a control framework in line with the Enterprise Risk Management Framework (ERMF) for the First Line of Defence.
• Assist in developing and enhancing the business unit’s control framework to address existing and emerging risks.
• Perform detailed major risk testing and conformance testing according to the core control activities model.
• Track and report progress of risk and control actions, ensuring deadlines are met and appropriate assurance is provided.
• Provide Management Information System (MIS) reports on a scheduled and ad‑hoc basis to stakeholders.
• Act as the primary contact for all control‑related matters within the business unit.
• Promote understanding of control management and embed a risk‑aware culture across the unit.
• Offer expert guidance, oversight and independent challenge through effective stakeholder relationships.
• Support team members in control forums as required.

Required profile

• Proven experience in risk identification, ownership, management and control within a financial institution.
• Strong knowledge of local and international regulations, group policies and operational controls.
• Ability to embed risk and control culture and to influence stakeholders.
• Excellent analytical and reporting skills.
