Certified Arborist

About the role

Amentum is seeking a Certified Arborist to support a unique U.S. Navy program on Diego Garcia. The role involves maintaining improved grounds, ensuring vegetation health and compliance with DoD landscaping standards.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain improved grounds, including prestige areas, POL areas, tanks, fence lines, pipelines, and berms, to meet Service Level Standards (J‑1503050‑06).
• Trim and prune trees, shrubs and plants, ensuring health, longevity and aesthetic appearance across lawns, fields and around structures such as fences, walls, signs, street lights and utility installations.
• Diagnose tree and plant health issues, identify pests, diseases and environmental stressors, and apply appropriate treatments including fertilization, pest control and irrigation.
• Operate and maintain landscaping equipment such as chainsaws, pruners, shears, stump grinders and related machinery safely and in compliance with DoD regulations.
• Document maintenance activities, inspections and reports as required by contract specifications and coordinate with local facility management and project stakeholders.

Required profile

• Current ISA Certified Arborist® credential or equivalent.
• 2‑4 years of arboriculture or grounds‑maintenance experience, including tree health assessment and pest/disease management.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid passport with at least one year remaining validity and ability to travel internationally.
• Ability to pass contract medical requirements and obtain necessary facility credentials.

Required skills

• Chainsaw operation and safety.
• Use of pruning tools, shears and stump grinders.
• Tree health assessment and disease/pest identification.
• Fertilization, irrigation and nutrient‑deficiency treatment.
• Compliance with DoD landscaping and safety standards (OSHA, etc.).
