Meteorological Technician

About the role

Amentum is seeking a Meteorological Technician to support a unique U.S. Navy program on Diego Garcia. The role involves collecting, recording, and analyzing a range of meteorological data to ensure mission‑critical weather information is accurate and timely.

Key responsibilities

• Operate, calibrate, and maintain weather monitoring instruments and automated observation systems.
• Prepare and disseminate routine and special weather reports in accordance with Navy and Amentum standards.
• Assist forecasting efforts by compiling observational data and identifying weather patterns.
• Monitor severe weather conditions and issue timely alerts to operational personnel.
• Maintain accurate logs, digital records, and equipment maintenance documentation.
• Collaborate with engineering, aviation, and operational teams to ensure data accuracy and mission readiness.
• Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Minimum two (2) years of experience in meteorology, atmospheric science, or weather observation.
• Experience with AN and FPS‑081 SWR, ASOS, 3140 Manual, METOC operations, and UMQ‑5.
• Certification per NAVMETOCCOMINST3140.1 US Navy METOC Support System.
• High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in meteorology preferred.
• Valid passport (minimum one year beyond hire date) and ability to obtain required visas and facility credentials.
• Ability to meet contract medical requirements for the deployment duration.
• Proficiency in reading, speaking, and comprehending English for contract performance and emergency procedures.

Required skills

• AN and FPS‑081 SWR weather radar system operation.
• ASOS (Automated Surface Observing Systems) maintenance.
• 3140 Manual and UMQ‑5 procedural knowledge.
• NAVMETOCCOMINST3140.1 certification.
• Use of meteorological instruments and automated weather data analysis tools.
