AI Engineer - RegTech Platform

About the role

Imperium(L) is recruiting an AI Engineer to join its growing team in Mauritius. The role focuses on the RegTech platform used by regulated financial services firms, applying AI to make existing processes more efficient, covering data extraction, intelligent matching, process automation and AI-driven reporting. The engineer also has the chance to work on other platforms in the portfolio.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and deploy AI-powered features, integrating them across the stack from APIs to user interfaces.
• Build AI-driven reporting, predictive analytics and forecasting that give clients and the business deeper insight.
• Evaluate AI models and tools for accuracy, cost and reliability, and choose the right fit.
• Build the data pipelines and integrations that AI features depend on.
• Work with business analysts to identify automation opportunities and turn them into working solutions.
• Ensure AI is used responsibly, with attention to data privacy, security and human review.
• Write clean, tested code, contribute to code reviews and CI/CD, and share knowledge of AI tools and practices with the team.

Required profile

• 2-3 years of hands-on experience in AI, machine learning or software development, with a solid development foundation.
• Degree in Computer Science, AI, Data Science or equivalent practical experience.
• Passion for applied AI, a practical problem-solver focused on what works in production, and a clear communicator with technical and non-technical colleagues.

Required skills

• Strong Python, including a web framework such as Flask, Django or FastAPI.
• Frontend development with React or similar.
• Practical AI experience, such as building with LLM APIs, RAG or embeddings, or developing predictive and machine learning models.
• Solid understanding of REST APIs, Git and integration patterns.
• Nice to have: AWS services such as Lambda or Bedrock, vector databases, agent or orchestration frameworks, document AI or OCR, predictive modelling tools, BI/reporting tools, automated testing frameworks, and experience in financial services or data-heavy systems.
