Assistant Accountant

About the role

We are looking for an Assistant Accountant to join Africa Specialty Risks (ASR) and support our finance function. You will work on accounts payable, expense processing and general ledger activities while helping to implement and optimise our finance systems.

Key responsibilities

• Own the end‑to‑end accounts payable process, including invoice receipt, validation, coding, posting and supplier statement reconciliations.
• Support the rollout and ongoing use of Concur for expense management, ensuring proper approvals and compliance.
• Prepare and post journals in NetSuite, covering accruals, pre‑payments and inter‑company transactions.
• Assist with month‑end close activities, including journal preparation, reconciliations and the production of supporting schedules for management reporting and audit.
• Maintain audit‑ready documentation, respond to auditor queries and help prepare financial statements under IFRS/UK GAAP.
• Identify and drive process improvements and automation opportunities within AP and expense workflows.

Required profile

• Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field; partially ACCA qualified is a plus.
• 2–4 years of experience in a finance or accounting role with exposure to accounts payable and general ledger functions.
• Strong understanding of IFRS and UK GAAP reporting standards.
