Commis Boucher (Butcher Assistant)

About the role

Constance Prince Maurice, a luxury resort on the northeast coast of Mauritius, is looking for a reliable and detail-oriented Commis (Butcher) to join its butchery team. You will work alongside experienced butchers supporting meat preparation, stock management and customer service, in a professional food retail environment.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain a clean, organised and hygienic workspace, including regular cleaning and sanitisation of equipment, surfaces and tools
• Support stock management: receive, check and rotate meat inventory to keep it fresh and of good quality
• Assist with counter operations and support customers by answering questions about meat products and availability
• Follow food safety regulations, health and safety protocols and company procedures at all times
• Operate and maintain butchery equipment safely, reporting faults or maintenance issues promptly
• Support the team during busy periods to keep workflow efficient and service timely
• Help with general housekeeping and waste management in line with food safety standards

Required profile

• Food hygiene certification, or willingness to obtain it within the first three months
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to high standards of food safety and hygiene
• Reliable, punctual and professional, able to work efficiently in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
• Basic communication skills and a customer-focused approach

Desirable qualifications

• Previous experience in butchery, meat preparation or food retail
• Knowledge of meat cuts, quality standards and handling best practices
• Customer service or counter operations experience
• Team player willing to learn new meat preparation techniques
