Coxswain – Vessel Operations for US Navy Program

About the role

Amentum is seeking an experienced Coxswain to operate and navigate boats for a critical US Navy program based on Diego Garcia. The role involves ensuring passenger safety, maintaining vessel readiness, and supporting mission‑critical maritime operations.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and navigate various watercraft, adhering to maritime laws and regulations.
• Conduct pre‑trip inspections, routine maintenance, and minor repairs.
• Monitor weather conditions and adjust plans as needed.
• Handle docking, mooring, and cargo loading/unloading safely.
• Maintain navigation and communication equipment.
• Coordinate with port authorities and other vessels.
• Manage emergency situations, perform rescues, and conduct safety drills.
• Keep accurate logs of trips, maintenance, and incidents.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a Coxswain or in a similar maritime role.
• Qualified per NAVEDTRA 43152.2 and familiar with Diego Garcia waterways.
• Minimum 48 hours hands‑on experience with deep‑sea fishing boats in Diego Garcia.
• American Red Cross Lifeguard, CPR and First Aid certification.
• Valid boat operator’s license or certification.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid passport (minimum 1‑year validity) and ability to travel internationally.
• Ability to pass contract medical requirements and obtain required facility credentials.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Global Positioning Systems (GPS).
• Boat operation and navigation equipment handling.
• Knowledge of maritime safety protocols and regulations.
