Elevator Mechanic – Maintenance & Repair

About the role

The Elevator Mechanic is responsible for maintaining and repairing mechanical and electrical systems of embassy elevators to ensure safety, certification, and continuous operation. Reporting to the Elevator Supervisor, the role combines hands‑on troubleshooting with preventive maintenance in a fast‑paced environment.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain a safe workplace and comply with all Environmental Health & Safety and Quality Assurance requirements.
• Diagnose and repair faults in brakes, motors, switches, control systems, locks, gears, cables, and safety devices using test equipment.
• Lubricate bearings and other moving parts to reduce friction.
• Install or repair transformers, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, motors, heating units, and conduit systems.
• Interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and wiring diagrams to locate equipment issues.
• Perform preventive maintenance according to published schedules and provide input for task upgrades.
• Conduct equipment testing with voltmeters, ammeters, ohmmeters, continuity testers, feeler gauges, and frequency counters.
• Complete additional duties and projects as assigned.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED; apprenticeship program with Journeyman’s Certificate or equivalent field experience strongly preferred.
• Experience reading sketches, engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and manufacturers’ manuals.
• Familiarity with US and European Electrical Codes and standard trade practices.
• Knowledge of annual maintenance and load‑testing procedures for electrical and mechanical systems.
