About the role
The Legal Counsel will provide comprehensive legal support to Absa Bank (Seychelles) Limited while being based in Mauritius. Reporting functionally to the Head of Legal (Indian Ocean) and locally to the Managing Director/Chief Risk Officer, the role may require travel to Seychelles as needed.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver timely, commercial‑focused legal advice to Business Units including Personal & Private Banking, Corporate & Investment Banking, Human Capital, Compliance, and Procurement.
- Identify, manage, and report legal risks across all areas of responsibility.
- Draft, review, and negotiate customer agreements, facility and security documentation, and third‑party/vendor contracts.
- Support transactional, contractual, and project‑related workstreams.
- Provide legal input on employment and human‑capital matters.
- Assist with litigation, dispute management, and debt recovery.
- Conduct thorough legal research and ensure advice remains current.
- Deliver training to Business Units on relevant legal topics and participate in key committees.
Required profile
- Qualified legal professional capable of operating under a dual reporting model.
- Willingness and ability to travel to Seychelles when required.
- Strong commercial awareness and ability to communicate legal concepts clearly to non‑legal stakeholders.
