Contract Accountant / Senior Accountant

About the role

The Mahatma Gandhi Institute is recruiting an Accountant or Senior Accountant on a one-year contract basis (renewable) to support its accounting and financial management. Travelling expenses are refunded according to the regulations in force.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Bursar in the accounting and financial management of the Institute.
• Keep records of the funds managed by the Institute and help prepare financial statements.
• Prepare financial reports and make recommendations to the Bursar, taking into account established financial and economic policy.
• Perform other duties directly related to the main duties or to the expected results of the role.

Required profile

• A pass at the final examination required for admission to membership of a professional accounting body (ICAEW, ICAS, ICAI, ACCA, CIMA or CIPFA), or an equivalent qualification acceptable to the MGI and RTI Council.
• Candidates outside government service or parastatal organisations should not have reached their 45th birthday by the closing date.
• Written evidence of qualifications, equivalence and claimed knowledge and experience must be submitted with the application.

What we offer

• Negotiable salary in the range of Rs38,980 to Rs80,975 (PRB 2026).
• Gratuity of two months' salary after twelve months of satisfactory service.
