Coxswain (Maritime Operations)

About the role

We are seeking a qualified Coxswain to operate and navigate vessels supporting a US Navy program on Diego Garcia. The role involves ensuring safe transport of personnel and cargo while maintaining vessel readiness in a remote, austere environment.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and navigate boats and other watercraft safely.
• Conduct pre‑trip inspections, routine maintenance, and minor repairs.
• Adhere to maritime laws, monitor weather, and adjust plans as needed.
• Handle docking, mooring, and cargo loading/unloading operations.
• Operate navigation and communication equipment and coordinate with port authorities.
• Manage emergency situations, perform rescues, and conduct safety drills.
• Maintain accurate logs of trips, maintenance, and incidents.
• Provide customer service and safety briefings to passengers and crew.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a Coxswain or similar role.
• Qualified per NAVEDTRA 43152.2 and familiar with Diego Garcia waterways.
• Minimum 48 hours hands‑on deep‑sea fishing boat experience in Diego Garcia.
• American Red Cross Lifeguard, CPR and First Aid certification.
• Valid boat operator’s license, high school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid passport (minimum one‑year validity) and ability to pass medical requirements.
