About the role
The Elevator Mechanic is responsible for maintaining and repairing mechanical and electrical systems of embassy elevators, ensuring safety, certification, and continuous operation. Reporting to the Elevator Supervisor, the role involves troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and compliance with safety and quality standards.
Key responsibilities
- Identify and resolve issues in brakes, motors, switches, and control systems using diagnostic tools.
- Disassemble defective units, replace or repair parts such as locks, gears, cables, and safety devices.
- Lubricate bearings and other components to reduce friction.
- Install and repair transformers, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, motors, heating units, and conduit systems.
- Interpret blueprints, drawings, and schematics to locate equipment faults.
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and suggest improvements to maintenance plans.
- Conduct load testing and equipment verification using voltmeters, ammeters, ohmmeters, continuity testers, feeler gauges, and frequency counters.
- Maintain documentation required for environmental health, safety, and quality assurance compliance.
- Support additional projects and duties as assigned.
Required profile
- High school diploma or GED; apprenticeship or Journeyman’s Certificate strongly preferred.
- Experience reading engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and manufacturers’ manuals.
- Familiarity with US Electrical Codes and standard trade practices.
- Knowledge of annual maintenance and load‑testing procedures for electrical and mechanical systems.
- Experience with Otis GEN2 MRL elevators is highly desirable.
- Previous work in overseas or harsh environments and experience with Amentum are a plus.
Required skills
- Electrical troubleshooting using voltmeters, ammeters, ohmmeters, continuity testers.
- Mechanical repair of gears, cables, locks, and safety devices.
- Interpretation of engineering drawings and wiring diagrams.
- Preventive maintenance planning and execution.
- Use of feeler gauges and frequency counters.
- Knowledge of US Electrical Codes.
- Familiarity with Otis GEN2 MRL elevator systems.
