About the role
The Elevator Mechanic will ensure safe, reliable operation of embassy elevators through maintenance, repair, and compliance with certification requirements. Reporting to the Elevator Supervisor, the role involves troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and documentation of work performed.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain a safe workplace and adhere to Environmental Health & Safety and Quality Assurance standards.
- Diagnose and repair faults in brakes, motors, switches, and control systems using test equipment.
- Disassemble defective units, replace or repair parts such as locks, gears, cables, and safety devices.
- Lubricate bearings and other components to reduce friction.
- Install or repair transformers, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, motors, heating units, and conduit systems.
- Interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and wiring diagrams to locate equipment issues.
- Perform preventive maintenance according to schedules, procedures, and warranties, and suggest improvements.
- Conduct equipment testing with voltmeters, ammeters, ohmmeters, continuity testers, feeler gauges, and frequency counters.
- Provide documentation and information to Environmental Health & Safety and Quality Assurance divisions.
- Undertake additional duties and projects as assigned.
Required profile
- High school diploma or GED; apprenticeship or Journeyman’s Certificate strongly preferred.
- Experience reading sketches, engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and manufacturers’ manuals.
- Familiarity with US and/or European Electrical Codes and standard trade practices.
- Knowledge of annual maintenance and load‑testing procedures for electrical and mechanical systems.
- Experience with Otis GEN2 MRL elevators is highly desirable.
- Ability to work in fast‑paced, multi‑task environments, including harsh conditions.
Required skills
- Electrical troubleshooting using test lamps, ammeters, voltmeters, ohmmeters, continuity testers, feeler gauges, and frequency counters.
- Mechanical repair and replacement of elevator components (locks, gears, cables, safety devices).
- Preventive maintenance planning and execution.
- Interpretation of engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and manufacturers’ manuals.
- Knowledge of US Electrical Code and European Electrical Code.
- Load testing procedures for elevator systems.
- Installation and repair of transformers, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, motors, and heating units.
