About the role

The Emergency Vehicle Technician is responsible for maintaining and repairing a wide range of fire department and emergency response vehicles, including fire apparatus, ARFF trucks, and ambulances. The role involves heavy‑equipment maintenance, diagnostics, and ensuring all equipment meets safety and operational standards.

Key responsibilities

  • Maintain and service assigned fire vehicles and equipment, including structural ARFF and ambulance apparatus.
  • Perform heavy‑equipment maintenance activities such as installation, repair, troubleshooting, diagnostics, and preventive maintenance.
  • Remove, replace, and inspect engines and mechanical units using computerized test equipment and calibration devices.
  • Repair and overhaul mobile mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Repair air‑conditioning systems and calibrate load‑monitoring indicators for safe lifts.
  • Rebuild hydraulic cylinders, valves, planetary drive units, suspensions, springs, bushings, and kingpins.
  • Replace seals, bearings, axle brakes, and perform crane rigging tasks.
  • Enter data for work orders, invoices, equipment repair records, and activity reports.
  • Follow all safety policies, including hazardous waste handling and recovery operations.
  • Act as point‑of‑contact for maintenance issues in the absence of the Maintenance Supervisor or Foreman.

Required profile

  • Minimum two years of heavy vehicle maintenance experience in emergency, civilian, or military/tactical environments.
  • High school diploma or equivalent and a valid driver’s license.
  • Prefer EVT Level 1 certification in Fire Apparatus, Ambulance, or ARFF.
  • Ability to diagnose electrical or mechanical malfunctions using electronic test equipment.
  • Specialized knowledge in diesel and heavy automotive repair.
  • Practical understanding of hydraulics, pulley and gear ratios.
  • Ability to read schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings.
  • Familiarity with OSHA, ANSI, ASME, OEM requirements and US military heavy‑vehicle standards.
