Privacy Engineering Director

About the role

DuckDuckGo is seeking a senior leader to own the most complex and high‑stakes privacy challenges across its products. As the Privacy Engineering Director you will drive end‑to‑end privacy initiatives, shape strategy, and mentor the next generation of privacy engineers in a remote‑first environment.

Key responsibilities

• Define, execute, and deliver high‑complexity privacy projects from concept to production.
• Evolve privacy triage and review processes, introducing automation to reduce engineering toil.
• Build and maintain privacy engineering frameworks for agentic browsing and private search index capabilities.
• Lead cross‑functional teams, acting as the direct responsible individual (DRI) for critical privacy initiatives.
• Contribute to company‑wide privacy strategy and ensure compliance with audit frameworks.
• Recruit, develop, and grow a high‑performing privacy engineering team.

Required profile

• 10+ years leading privacy reviews, audits, or technical privacy programs at a consumer‑facing product with >1M users.
• 4+ years of privacy engineering leadership experience building infrastructure or data‑minimisation tools.
• Director/Head/VP‑level experience with direct management and hiring responsibilities.
• Proven ability to drive high‑complexity, cross‑functional projects with minimal direction.
• Strong communication skills and a passion for raising the standard of trust online.
