Project Research Assistant

About the role

The Project Research Assistant will support all research initiatives at Reef Conservation, working closely with the Research Project Manager on daily tasks. This dynamic position offers hands‑on fieldwork, data analysis, and community engagement opportunities in marine environments.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Research Project Manager in planning, implementing, and monitoring research projects.
• Conduct fieldwork, including snorkeling and diving, to monitor coral, seagrass, and mangrove ecosystems.
• Collect, analyse, and interpret scientific data, ensuring accuracy for reports and publications.
• Maintain databases and support GIS mapping and spatial analysis.
• Coordinate procurement of equipment and organise stakeholder meetings.
• Engage with local communities, delivering education and training on marine environmental issues.
• Prepare scientific and technical reports, publications, and communication materials.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Science in biology, ecology, marine or fisheries science, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of one year of relevant work experience, including sea‑based scientific monitoring.
• Fluency in English, French, and Creole.
• Valid PADI Open Water (or equivalent) diving certification.
• Valid manual driving licence.
• Mauritian citizenship.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
• Experience with data analysis software.
• Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and spatial analysis.
• PADI Open Water diving qualification for field sampling.
