Supply Teacher (Secondary) - 2025

About the role

The Mahatma Gandhi Institute and Rabindranath Tagore Institute (MGI & RTI) are enlisting supply teachers for secondary schools in Mauritius. Positions are purely temporary, taken as and when required during the academic year 2026, and cover a wide range of subjects.

Key responsibilities

• Teach the listed subjects in the MGI and RTI secondary schools on a temporary basis.
• Subjects include Accounting, Art, Biology, Business Studies, Chemistry, Computer Science, Economics, English, French, Hindi, Marathi, Mathematics, Music, Performing Arts, Physical Education, Physics, Social Studies, Sociology, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu, among others.

Required profile

• Candidates must be suitably qualified and outside the service.
• Age limit: candidates must not have reached their 70th birthday by the closing date; priority goes to young graduates, and candidates up to 70 are enlisted in scarcity areas.
• Qualifications: Cambridge School Certificate with credit in at least five subjects including English, or GCSE Ordinary Level passes in at least five subjects including English; or Cambridge Higher School Certificate or two GCSE Advanced Level subjects.
• A degree or Bachelor of Education in the subject to be taught, or a Diploma pitched at Level 6 of the National Qualifications Framework for subjects 7, 13, 14, 19 and 20.
• Candidates without an English credit at School Certificate level may still be considered with Principal-level and Subsidiary-level passes and a General Paper.

What we offer

• Monthly allowance of Rs 21,850 for Level 6 diploma holders, or Rs 27,400 for those meeting the higher qualification criteria, plus salary compensation at approved rates, paid pro rata by days of attendance.
• Refund of bus fares at approved rates.
