Automotive Painter – US Navy Program (Diego Garcia)

About the role

Amentum is seeking an experienced Automotive Painter to join a unique US Navy program on the island of Diego Garcia. The role involves preparing and coating contract‑unit vehicles to meet strict military specifications.

Key responsibilities

• Apply primer, paint, lacquer, epoxy, resin or other coatings using brushes, rollers, spray guns and related equipment.
• Remove legacy paint with liquid removers, scrapers, or sand/blast media.
• Prepare surfaces by sanding, steel‑wool polishing, and acid‑solution treatment for optimal adhesion and corrosion control.
• Mask and cover areas not to be painted and apply insignia, letters or numerals using stencils.
• Perform additional duties as assigned, adhering to safety and quality standards.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum three years recent experience in maintenance, water blasting, sand/blasting, overhaul and painting/de‑painting of contract‑unit equipment.
• Normal color vision and ability to pass physical fitness and respirator fit tests.
• Valid passport (minimum one‑year validity) and ability to travel internationally.
• Capability to meet contract medical requirements and obtain facility credentials.

Required skills

• Spray‑gun operation and coating application.
• Water blasting, sand blasting and bead blasting.
• Surface preparation techniques including sanding, steel‑wool polishing and acid treatment.
• Masking and stencil painting.
