HAZMAT & HAZWASTE Handler / Shipper

About the role

Amentum is seeking an experienced HAZMAT / HAZWASTE Handler / Shipper to support a critical U.S. Navy program on Diego Garcia. The role ensures safe, compliant collection, packaging, transportation, and disposal of hazardous materials and waste.

Key responsibilities

• Collect, package, transport, and ship hazardous materials (HM), hazardous waste (HW), and excess HM in line with Diego Garcia Final Governing Standards (DGFGS) and contractor plans.
• Manage the Hazardous Waste Storage Area (HWSA), Satellite Hazardous Waste Accumulation Points (SHWAPs), and the Hazardous Material Minimization (HAZMIN) Reissue Center.
• Conduct inspections of hazardous materials and waste to verify compliance with storage, handling, packaging, and disposal standards.
• Maintain accurate records of waste generation, shipment, and disposal activities.
• Provide training and guidance to team members on proper handling, packaging, and disposal procedures.

Required profile

• Minimum five (5) years experience in collection, transportation, shipping, and disposal of hazardous waste, hazardous material, or other regulated waste.
• At least five (5) years documented experience operating hazardous material or waste facilities such as HWSA, SHWAPs, or HAZMIN Reissue Center.
• Certification to certify outgoing hazardous cargo shipments obtained through the Naval School of Physical Distribution Management (Oakland, CA) or the School of Military Packaging Technology (Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD), with biennial refresher courses.
