Childcare Practitioner - Pre-Nursery

About the role

Inspired Education is recruiting a qualified and passionate Childcare Practitioner for its Pre-Nursery team at Northfields International School, an independent co-educational day school in Mauritius offering English-medium education for children aged 18 months to 18 years. The post works with children aged approximately 18 months to 3 years in a nurturing, inclusive and engaging learning environment.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver engaging, age-appropriate learning experiences that promote curiosity, development and independence.
• Create and maintain a safe, clean, organised and stimulating classroom environment.
• Plan and implement structured activities and thematic learning based on children's needs and interests.
• Support cognitive, social, emotional and physical development through a balance of guided learning and play.
• Provide essential caregiving routines and monitor children's welfare, promoting positive behaviour, social interaction and emotional regulation.
• Maintain developmental records, including observations, milestone tracking and work samples.
• Prepare and share three annual progress reports covering developmental, social-emotional and academic growth.
• Record and report incidents or accidents promptly, with parental acknowledgement.
• Welcome children and families daily, communicate daily routines and updates clearly, and support new families through a smooth induction.
• Build respectful, collaborative relationships with parents, colleagues and school leadership.

Required profile

• School Certificate.
• Diploma in Early Childhood Education.

Required skills

• Systematic observation and interpretation of young children's developmental needs.
• Adapting the classroom environment to individual interests and learning styles.
• Evaluating teaching strategies and assessing each child's progress, with tailored support.
• Identifying patterns of growth and behaviour to inform referrals and recommendations to parents.
