Claims Manager

About the role

As a Claims Manager at Africa Specialty Risks, you will lead the claims function across multiple African markets, handling large and complex property and liability reinsurance claims. You will work closely with underwriters, actuaries and brokers to deliver a first‑class claims service.

Key responsibilities

• Support the Head of Claims in building an African‑centric claims service.
• Maintain ownership of a portfolio of large & complex property/liability claims from notification to settlement.
• Develop and maintain relationships with internal teams (Underwriting, Operations, Finance, Actuarial) and external partners (clients, brokers, capacity providers).
• Ensure claims are adjusted according to ASR’s Claims Philosophy and Handling Guidelines.
• Monitor key claim strategies, flag contentious matters and escalate as needed.
• Maintain accurate claim records, files and diary system.
• Assist with internal and external reporting and provide ad‑hoc updates.
• Mentor junior claims team members and contribute to team development.

Required profile

• Proven experience in handling large, complex property and liability (re)insurance claims.
• Strong technical knowledge of claims handling and reinsurance processes.
• Ability to work collaboratively across underwriting, actuarial and operational teams.
• Excellent judgment and decision‑making skills.
• Leadership experience, including mentoring junior staff.
