Director of Operations

About the role

The Director of Operations leads all operational activities across Africa for Hapag-Lloyd QSC Mauritius, covering cargo operations, depots, inland transport, vendor management, and regulatory compliance. The role ensures safe, efficient, cost‑effective, and customer‑focused execution while supporting the region’s commercial objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic and operational leadership for Cargo Operations, Equipment, Inland Transport, Depots, and Maintenance & Repair.
• Ensure consistent execution of Hapag‑Lloyd’s operating model, governance framework, policies, controls, and SOPs.
• Oversee end‑to‑end operational execution to guarantee safe, efficient, and customer‑focused service delivery.
• Lead resolution of critical operational issues, manage risks and exceptions, and drive continuous improvement, automation, and standardisation.
• Optimise inland transportation, depot operations, equipment utilisation, inter‑terminal movements, and maintenance activities.
• Manage operational vendors and partners, ensuring contractual compliance and service quality.
• Establish and monitor operational KPIs, budgets, and productivity targets; drive cost‑optimisation initiatives.
• Ensure full compliance with internal policies, audit requirements, and local regulations; build strong relationships with regional teams, customs authorities, and other stakeholders.
• Champion initiatives that improve reliability, customer satisfaction, and quality commitments.

Required profile

• Proven ability to lead direct and matrix teams.
• Experience collaborating with regional stakeholders, vendors, local authorities, and customs.
• Strong focus on operational stability, compliance, and service excellence.
