External Consultant – Direct Lending

About the role

Investec is seeking an entrepreneurial and commercially minded coverage banker to join its Direct Lending team in Mauritius. The role focuses on originating and developing lending opportunities across Mauritius and the Mauritius IFC, building long‑term relationships with sophisticated borrowers.

Key responsibilities

• Originate new Direct Lending opportunities in Mauritius, the Mauritius IFC and cross‑border markets such as Africa and India.
• Build and maintain senior relationships with business owners, CEOs, CFOs, investors and professional advisers.
• Assess, structure and negotiate transactions that deliver attractive risk‑adjusted returns.
• Lead opportunities from origination through credit approval, negotiation and execution.
• Collaborate with Credit, Risk, Legal and other internal teams to ensure high‑quality transactions.
• Partner with specialist product areas across the Group to create broader client value.
• Mentor and develop junior team members, sharing commercial and credit expertise.

Required profile

• Proven experience in lending, direct lending, private credit, corporate banking or leveraged finance.
• Strong track record of originating and developing client relationships.
• Excellent understanding of financial analysis, credit, structuring and risk.
• Entrepreneurial mindset with ability to work independently and collaborate effectively.
• At least six years’ relevant experience; Chartered Accountant, CFA or BSc in Finance/Banking preferred.
