Quantity Surveyor – Construction Cost Management

About the role
Ferney Development Ltd is looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join its growing development portfolio. Reporting to the Development Manager, you will drive cost planning, value optimisation and commercial governance from feasibility through to final account.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare cost estimates and elemental cost plans using first‑principles methodology for feasibility studies and business cases.
- Review and validate project cost assumptions and financial model inputs.
- Identify and implement cost optimisation and value‑engineering opportunities.
- Lead procurement of specialist and long‑lead items, including tender preparation, evaluation and negotiation.
- Monitor project cost reports, perform cost‑to‑complete analysis and verify contractor payment applications.
- Maintain cost databases, benchmarking data and risk registers aligned with market conditions.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure strong commercial governance and delivery.
Required profile
- Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, Civil Engineering or equivalent.
- 5+ years post‑graduate experience covering pre‑contract (feasibility, estimating) and post‑contract (cost management, payment certification) roles.
- Proficiency in first‑principles cost estimation and preparation of Bills of Quantities and elemental cost plans.
- Experience in procurement of specialist items.
- Working knowledge of FIDIC contract administration (Red Book and/or Yellow Book).
- Professional membership or progress towards RICS, ASAQS or equivalent QS accreditation is an advantage.
